The Galaxy Born Universe imagines a future where Humanity has solved many of its worst problems and aspires to good in the galaxy. Still, this is no Utopia--there are dark, grounded, gritty themes, but at it's core, Galaxy Born is a story of free people on the final frontier working together to overcome great odds, which means stories can tread the dark underbellies of the galaxy, AND immerse you in wondrous and beautiful worlds.

A CAPTAIN THAT IS ALL HERO
Captain Cole Sadler is a daring hero with an unshakeable moral core. He is what all captains must be--the most skilled and competent member of the crew and a leader who inspires his people to achieve the impossible. And he NEVER leaves a crewman behind. 

He earned the Strider Medal of Valor after his heroic actions in the Siege of Swarga, the final battle of the Xeno War. He has the special authority in the most dire times to do what is necessary to save the people of the Commonwealth of Stars. Only officers of the highest skill and moral character earn this honor.
And no Space Adventure is complete without a vessel to call home....
Meet Your Starship: 
UCS Independence
The United Commonwealth Starship Independence is the last surviving vessel of the super-frigate Declaration Class, and the only vessel with the speed, range, and defenses capable of completing the dangerous journey into the heart of enemy-infested space. The problem?

Her crew recently mutinied against a brutal captain who drove them to a breaking point. Former captain Treadaway went to the edge of madness in his quest to erradicate the pirates and cartels on the frontier and is currently standing trial after his lawful removal from command. Despite the Admiralty Board of Inquiry vindicating the actions of the crew, any mutiny, however justified, leaves a black cloud over its perpetrators. 

All conventional wisdom tells Captain Cole Sadler he is a fool to trust a mutinous crew, but he needs the Independence--no other ship will do. Whether he has the command ability to lead a shell-shocked and demoralized crew to victory remains to be seen...
The Characters
The crew of the UCS Independence are inspired by the larger than life characters that once had a drink in Quark’s bar on Deep Space 9 or joined Dr. Who on his adventures through time.
Captain Cole Sadler
Born and raised in space, Cole Sadler has spent his whole life traveling the stars. His father was a brave marine killed in action before he was born, his mother a decorated navy officer in her own right. 

The pain of growing up without ever knowing his father drove him to addition in his youth. With the help of his grandfather, Charlton Sadler, he came back from the darkness of his teenage years and went on to win the Strider Medal of Valor and is one of the best officers in the Star Navy.
Commander Braxton Cross
A brave Marine and devout Christian who does what it takes to save lives and complete the mission, and has been Captain Sadler’s trusted Number One for years. 

He grew up in the Texas Republic, one of the few countries from Earth to leave the Earth Democratic Union to join the United Commonwealth of Stars. Earthborn officers are still relatively few in the Commonwealth, where most are born of the colonies. His naturally peaceful demeanor means he doesn't mind the askance looks. He always looks after his brothers and sisters in the trenches.
Lt. Commander Mei’Bei
A brash Capruan fighter pilot who lives by the seat of her pants, she is quick to draw her scorcher (slang for particle pistol), but always takes care of her wingman. She prefers a good fight to the minutiae of leadership. But when the crew of Independence could no longer endure their suffering under Captain Treadaway's leadership, she led the mutiny that removed him. She is slow to trust Sadler--the new captain.

Her species, the Capruans, hail from a planet with a long day/night cycle and have adapted to hibernate. They are the first alien species to make contact with humanity, and are known for their altruistic nature, sprawling tight-knit families, and rich culture of art, theater, and literature.  
Dr. Bando Bellindo
The genius Ounda doctor who traded the life of famous scientist for combat medic so he could explore the stars and seek out new lifeforms. His sickbay is part holistic medical spa, part exo-biology lab. The unchallening work of tending to the medical needs of the crew suits him fine, as it allows him to explore the stars AND study the cultures of his patients.

His species, the Ounda, hail from a rare star system with 3 habitable planets. Their homeworld is a paradise of civil liberty and widespread wealth. Their tradecraft, civic knowledge, and enlightened diplomacy made possible the peaceful cooperation of multiple species and the founding of the United Commonwealth of Stars. 
Flight Lieutenant 
Farah Fayed
The chief pilot of the Independence at age 24, she's an obsessive overachiever who makes no secret of her ambitions to command a ship of her own. 

Her remarkable piloting skill results in feats of aviation that are famous in the fleet, but her impatience to rise in the ranks often ruffles feathers in the fleet. She's an isolated workaholic one minute, a party-hard trouble maker the next.
Paladin Gryffgor
A Rakoi warrior forced to live among Humans who distrust him in order to complete a mission of great importance to his spiritual leader, the Pontifex. During the Xeno War, his clan opposed his own people's attempt to enslave Humanity under the leadership of Imperator Romidos. As a result, the evil warlord Romidos nuked Gryffgor's planet, Spearius, from orbit. He's neither enemy nor friend of the Commonwealth--he cares only for the success of his mission.

Legend has it his species, the Rakoi, fled their homeworld millennia ago after an invasion by a highly advanced race. Without any faster-than-light technology, the Rakoi managed to settle hundreds of colonies throughout our spiral arm of the galaxy over the course of 18,000 years.
